The Art of Listening and Other Things... ( 388 reads) Tuesday, November 03, 2009 (00:11:00)

As we all slide inevitably toward The Holiday Season, some of us kicking and screaming No, No, No… there’s never enough time for everything I need to do. But I somehow found the time to write this rather ridiculous verse. Sorry…

Listening is an Art Form…

Like a dipsy broad I run in circles, chase my shadow, attempt to catch my breath.
Inhale, genius; before you huff and puff and gnash yourself to death
running gauntlets like a hound, splitting hairs that stand on end upon your crown.
Slow down! Wipe the dribble off your face, please show a little class;
haste makes waste, to those who won’t pursue the precious art of procrastination.
How about a nap instead of work; a sporty romp throughout the park,
shoot the breeze with neighbor folk, deny the grave compulsion to die from work?
Another cup of coffee, please. Caffeine is what I need to warm me up.
Within my veins it stimulates my dizzy brain to catch the word that must be heard!
Losing battle this. In midst of shouting “slow it down” I forged ahead
and wrote this pithy crust of toast I’ll never post. I wonder which disturbs me most,
my inner self becoming bold enough to shout out loud in wasted verse
or me, an unrepentant, time thieving twit consistently engaged in ignoring myself?

Ha-ha, if anyone recognized themselves in this…
… please, go take a break, walk your tingling feet awake.

Thanks to various poets who posted serious poems recently on the following subjects:

The importance of listening, avoiding the use of clichés, and another really important subject that unfortunately escapes me at the moment due to an overwhelming case of “terminal CRS.”
