But I Could Never Ask

I remember when you mentioned
that the girls seem all alike
decked out like feather pillows
with insatiable appetites…

I couldn’t fathom what you meant
cute blondes and tall brunettes
pink wonderlands of cool perfume
but now I do – I see it, too…

I’ve wondered what you wanted
in the days that came to pass
perhaps a partner for your efforts
who won’t run out of gas.

Did you meet her at the college
was she sitting in the grass
was she reading Proust and Plato
did you realize her class…

You were just our local carpenter
a high school graduate
how would you ever interest her
but I could never ask.

Mary Ann..I do like your style..a combination of meter, rhyme, and free verse. It's something you seem to do effortlessly.

I like this..it's breezy and not too heavy. But I would make the punctuation and uppercase more consistent.

And one funny thing to note..in S4L4, I kept wanting to say "Did you realize her ass"..sorry, I couldn't help it.

Tee-hee... I'd guess he has a secret talent, lol!

Thank you so much, Zhaul.

Ha-ha, I do that, too - most recently to wordsmithwannabe...

I'll clarify the punctuation before posting to finished - I sort of went back 'n forth about the unfinished thoughts (...) so may need cleaning up a bit.

At the risk of sounding cheeky - I love how the poem seems to say exactly what I meant!

Woo-eee, thank you Hugh - Cheers, Mary Ann

- The only change I made was to switch "cute and tall" which I believe I originally wrote bass-ackwards. Thank you everyone... Smile
