the lines are straight, never curved;
she seeks safety in predictibility.
her life follows a strict routine,
faltering from it would prove failure.

four pills and a glass of water;
morning.
eight pills and a glass of water;
evening.
rock-a-bye baby...
she cries herself to sleep.

creamy whites and hues of brown,
no indentations found on her furniture.
the thermostat rests firm at 67 degrees
and tea is always served half past four.

paint on your smile, dear.
pull back your hair.
powder your nose, darling.
and never, never, let them see...

I dont' know why, but this struck me differently. In particular, this line didn't seem to fit..

creamy whites and hues of brown

I do like the poem Smile

How true of most women.....some are just better at hiding it.

nice job red. the hollowness really comes through.

I see the "colors" as lack of colors. There's no angry or passionate reds or moody blues. Its all controlled- "muted" The glimpse of her decor further highlights her retreat from feeling emotions for me.

What a trap of a life! Well-described, Redhead, though I didn't understand the "creamy whites and hues of brown" either.

if you refer to arpeggio's comment, he hit it right on the head. creamy whites and hues of brown--they are muted colors. almost dull and boring. there are no bright and vibrant reds, no purples or greens. it's a very practical living space she resides in. standard and even typical, for her "type".

(and im not knocking white or browns. Smile)

This reminds me of my mother for some reason. She was always too concerned with what people thought to ever really relax.

It's amazing what is behind the masks that people wear. This was a great piece. Hits hard.
