can i just say those "L"s of yours bug the hell outta me. its an O.C.D. thingie
now the question, when i penned my first real love poem that had some merit ( hardly any writing skill whatsoever but that wasn't the point at the time) behind the words. i was 19 years old i believe. |
brownbwi, yes that sounds good.
About 'O.C.D', I thought it was a kind of 'stamp' and due to keyboard limitations, I got 'hooked' on using two - "L's" in a row like as you describe, I don't feel it's 'O.C.D.'
Thanks for writing back,
inn - duce

Oh thats a toughie..... but a goodie Induce... I don't have access to my early stuff... to get dates lots got lost when I left home..or discarded by unsentimental parent!! Lots is in my old homeland, I may never see any of that again.... but I can't remember a time when I didn't write.... I have had downtimes.... but I guess the first time I knew I was doing it was probably around 17..... I would love to have some of the stuff I did then, even though it was depressing self absorbed blah blah!!! Is it so different now I wonder ;-P

When I was 13 and hopelessly in puppy love with some dumb 17 year old guy named Jerry. He used to get angry with me for smoking cigarettes. I wrote him a letter and made a copy of it to put in my notebook of sentimental memories. I still have it to this day. It was so desperate but it was honest. He helped me up a ladder once to watch fireworks from his roof and that was as close as we ever came to sex but it was enough. I dumped him 2 weeks later to write about someone else.

Warm, still, and inviting. Although not suitable for drinking, it's usually diverted through pipes to simulate rain.

I remember explicitly the first time I felt I could actually write something.
It was in grammar school and the class was supposed to be writing footnotes on index cards for some assignment. Instead, I opted to jot down prolific musings on what my teacher ( a Nun) looked like underneath that habit. I got caught when we were supposed to hand in our notes. Before I coud figure out how to hide them, she'd scooped them off my desk. Needless to say it was an earth shattering event. I got my face slapped silly, a trip to the principal's office and a sever punishment at home. Part of my penance at school was to write an essay asking
God to forgive me. It took me several drafts to compose the biggest lie of my childhood. That's when I discovered I had some talent for bullshitting the world with my words.

that. is. priceless.
the first time I had confidence in my writing was probably sometime right before I graduated high school. the minor successes back then (praises, publication, short reading on community tv) had all seemed like lucky breaks but came too often and I started thinking otherwise.
I sometimes lose that feeling, confidence, especially lately.

I was 11. But that was also the first time I ever even wrote any poetry. My old stuff sucks. But hey I still like looking at it and seeing how much better I've gotten. And I still think my spelling was better too. =]

The stories are so varied and individual! - I suppose that is what writing as a whole is about.

I still don't consider myself a writer or a poet I'm just a guy flinging words upon a page hoping to reach some kind of truth.

I published my first poem when I was 9, in a children's magazine. I think I was about 14 when I first decided I was destined to be a poet. Still have notebooks back to that time -- 1974.
