I'm stuck in "Page Slam" jail with everything "pending" and I can't create a new slam so what do I have to do to get out of "Page Slam" jail?

You can't. You need to get people to sign up to the slams that you have created. Once they have finished you will be able to create further slams, however you don't seem to have called any slams.
What is the message that you are getting when you try to create a slam?

All the slams that I'm signed up for originated with someone else. The problem with most of them is that they call for almost fifty poets to sign up before they'll kick in. How does one get oneself off of these everlasting, forever-wait-for-someone-to-sign-up, slams?

You can't back out of a slam once you enter. You are committed for it to start. There is no limit on the number of slams that you can join - providing that you have the karma required to join.
There just are not enough interested poets to join those 128 slot slams (it's a bit debatable if you'll get even 32 people to play right now).
There are a few smaller slams that are almost full (that you didn't join yet). You could try those, or you could try getting folks to join the others.
You can always start a small open slam yourself. They tend to fill quickly.

What were they thinking creating 128 slot slams? They'll never fill up.

Actually, no I can't for some strange reason my "New Slam" button doesn't work and that's what prompted my question. I can't get out of the slams that I've joined (which may never become active because of the perimeters, eg 128 poets need to play set forth by this website) nor can I start a small slam, therefore the "stuck in slam jail" characterization.

Dear Mr Nolip- I have called a deathmatch slam entitled 'proposterous, pretentious prittle prattle' for which I have selected my most unrealistically utopian and politically correct work- (some of which I now cringe at, but there you have it!) hence the title. I don't anticipate winning it- I think it's some kind of repressed masochism inhereted from a dysfunctional childhood! Seriously though- it costs 10 karma to join and I would be honoured if you would join it. spence
