"You play poker like Charles Azvanour
fumbling over a house of cards
as if twos and aces were one and the same"

Its a silly game,
never saw the point of lies
yet here,
skill is not truth but deception
and like politicians
its the not the cards
that count,

but the men that hold them.

I like how concise this is. The significance of L3 may be lost on me, not sure. Thats because I don't play poker and don't appreciate the significance of twos and aces. Also L1, I think the name is Aznavour, is it not? Is there some special reason for picking him?

I agree with Ozymandis...I admit I had to look him up to see the reference.
I'm guessing the third line ties that in? Maybe it's okay to keep us on our toes once and in a while Wink

Not sure about the comma after "game", but I'm probably not the best judge on punctuation.

Enjoyed the overall piece

Thanks everyone! Charles Aznavour is a french musician who has a ridiculous song about playing poker, and all the rules that are involved in playing poker.. my main goal was to portray a very poor card player and comparing it to the nature of politics..like poker, politics aren't about the truth but what you can get away with.
Also Ace= the highest or the lowest card... depending on your game
twos are the lowest card..when aces are high
twos can also be the highest depending on the game..

So yeah if you can't keep up with what is a high and what is not.....

Yes, I did see he became involved in politics later on in his career, but I didn't know he wrote the song you mentioned.

I did like the absurdness of such an upstanding and generous person sitting and trying to play a game of high stakes poker.

My ex was an avid player and I'm afraid I know way more than I care to confess about the game...

"...So yeah if you can't keep up with what is a high and what is not....."
yup, that's just the reason to leave the name in Smile
