Phoenix Tongue New Year Open Mic
Hello Everyone,
I believe by the time you read this you will be ready to start off this New Year
with Poetry, Music and Storytelling. Phoenix Tongue Open Mic's first
session of '09 will be this Wednesday, January 7.
To my "Band of Brothers and Sisters" welcome back.
This year marks our vision of difference. So just do it.
I know there are those of you that have been frustrated in that you
have been a wallflower waiting. Well wait no more.
It is time to step up to the mic with your offering, heartfelt with charm, joy, or sadness,
whether it is scribbled or typewritten, from yourself or your favorite poet.
I am looking forward to frivolity, ennui, and passion from you.

Wendal Bailey is an African-American bisexual male in his early 30's.
Examined in this drama are Wendal's two worlds;
one which revolves around his love life,
the other based in the home of his extended family
- his mother, father, "aunt", brother and 12-year-old son.
After nearly dying of complications from AIDS,
Wendal comes home to regain his strength
and find comfort, but a festive evening celebrating
his return turns disastrous.
After a series of tumultuous events, the only support
and love he finds as he lies in a bed
of uncertainty comes from an unexpected source.

Commentary: This prize-winning work is one of the few AIDS plays
written from a perspective other than that
of an affluent, white, homosexual male.
The author formerly was a social worker.
Please note: This play contains some explicit language
and minor sexual interactions
and may not be suitable for children under 13.
