Franco family's 'Metamorphosis: Junior Year'

The result is "Metamorphosis: Junior Year," a novel released in October that combines prose with poetry, short chapters with big themes and mythology with modern-day teenage angst. It is a collaboration between mother and sons: Betsy wrote the text; Tom, 29, did the illustrations; and James, 31, and Dave, 24, recorded the audio version of the book....

A lyrical tribute

Ludhianvi's songs gave flutter to the dreams and desires of an entire generation and here they were put in context with his life's story. The play drew in a motley crowd, while the stream of silver-haired was heard re-living Ludhianvi masterpieces like “Jaane woh kaise log they jinke pyar ko pyar mila”, youngsters too found their connect with the master lyricist....

True, this Kirana Gharana veteran, groomed by martinet Abdul Ghani Khan, has never made a secret of having garnered features from other schools of music. But not haphazardly — after all, he is also the disciple of the master musicologist Thakur Jaidev Singh — but to enrich his presentation. And the audience did get to experience this multi-fold absorption....

The Bible according to David Rosenberg is a masterpiece of poetry and scholarship, both challenging and rewarding, always invigorating and illuminating. Perhaps the highest praise I can bestow upon “A Literary Bible” is to report that it sent me back to the Bible, again and again, and I invariably returned to the pages of Rosenberg’s book with an even greater admiration for its author and even greater pleasure in his work....

Arale and Gariye are great icons in Somali poetry. Each, in his way has deservedly built a reputation for research, creativity and academic excellence. Both of them taught at institutions of higher learning, but Arale authored many books while Gariye didn’t. So, it is with great anguish that I am writing this article to render judgment on their respective claims to the discovery of the scansion of Somali poetry....
