The Gift of Inner Peace

The gift of inner peace
Always comes from within
Not from lover or drug
And not from next of kin

To look at its converse
Anxiety and stress
You will understand soon
Serenity worth less

Most agree peace can be attained
Through prayer and meditation
Keeping fifteen minutes each day
For you without reservation

With time invested in yourself
The outside world is held at bay
And whispers now heard from within
Suggest payback with what they say

Your thoughts now trained to benefit
Instead of rob your inner peace
Will shield outside criticism
Affording your life a new lease

Upon reaching this new balance
With personal temperament
Those fortunate to be called friends
Will recognize time wisely spent
