The Day I Die

The day I die, too late to change my ways,
and audit how I spent allotted days;
for consequences of the things I did
will not be buried when they close the lid.

The day I die, too late to introspect,
and every severed bond to reconnect;
for all the ugly words I ever said
cannot be taken back when I am dead.

The day I die is fast approaching me-
I’m forced to think about my legacy,
and ask my God and those whom I hold dear:
How is the world for having had me here?

The day I die, redemption or remorse;
the time is now to seek a proper course.
