Bad Moon Rising

The old man seemed so low and sad
Little wonder for the news was bad
Lost in thoughts of what lay ahead
So hard to accept he would soon be dead.

He was three score years and ten plus two
And didn’t want to die he had things to do
Thoughts of his wife and how she might cope
Big sobs welled up and choked in his throat.

For the sake of others he must be strong
He prayed the pain wouldn't last too long
His thoughts flew back to childhood days
Cherished memories in his mind displayed.

He smiled and recalled their wedding day
Then their children around his feet at play
All down the years he had seen them grow
In truth, he said, you reap what you sow.

He grinned and laughed at times gone past
The years it seemed, had flown by so fast
He sighed and yawned, drifting off to sleep
Then gently his soul became God's to keep.
