Keku
by Keku

Or dreams and prays finally arrived
Our puppy will soon be home; the fairies have told me so
My father, my night in shinning amour
A puppy hiding behind

We called her Keku, the name of grandma’s cat
Mostly black and swirls of white
Fur fluffy as cotton
My puppy grew too quickly
A dog was born that night

Taught her tricks, so smart was she
Keku rang the bell, passed her children notes and spoke upon command

Rekadeediks, Rekadeediks can you hear us calling you?

Our childhood companion grew old with us
Time changing her silky black fur to a duller shine
Black button eyes a bit lack luster these days

Keketeecoo from Timbuktu, we love you

Wedding day approaching
May we dress you too?
Keku never made it to see my wedding day
Never dressing her in fancy lace that sunny day in May
Memories are locked so deep
Keku we love you

Rekadeediks, Rekadeediks, till we meet in heaven one day
