Ballet In Gray
by MichaelFirewalker

how long has it been
since we held a full hand
naked souls walking land
freed from thieving men

long ago we knew
the firm round view
of need’s sweated songs
full and whole
ripe and true

why has it begun
to sound so hollow here
echoes in the shallows of fear
corridors disappeared screwed down
into dungeons won by undone

when did it become
no place left to go
nothing more to know
only ghosts who wallow
wandering they fill
our frozen homely rooms
where brittle stillness burns
and turns in bitter silences

while outside twisted skies
force thunder into lightning
skewed ignition for the killing fuels
ocean slicks pooled in putrid graces
left to flash beneath haunting mews
the raw screams of oil-drenched gulls

together trance now lulls
as stupefied we watch
rictus grins form on faces
stretched to grimace as they do
laughing right at me and all of you
their charcoal smooth wraith’s ballet
of silhouettes forced outdoors to play
kabuki with the death shadows
