Birthday Surprise
by realrhoda

My boyfriend treats me oh so well
My birthday dinner was the time to tell
We feasted on gourmet Mexican cuisine
You know, with plenty of spices and beans

But that’s not all, oh no my friends
He then had more elaborate plans
He whisked me away to his lovely home
Said he had a surprise and placed a blind-fold on

Anticipating a special gift, I acquiesced to his request
He stood me in the center of the room and said to wait
He’d be back real soon.
I heard him bounding up the stairs, it was dark and so
Quiet, I assumed no one else was there

By now those beans I enjoyed during dinner
Were fighting inside and beginning to simmer
Feeling the pain of gaseous digestion
I longed for an outlet for all this congestion

Thinking no harm, alone in the dark
I just let it go, “Kaboom” and a spark
What a relief but an odor remained
I flapped out my coat like a bat on the wing

Thinking all’s well I began to relax
My boyfriend returned and eloquently waxed
How he did love me and it was time to reveal
The surprise for my birthday the blind-fold concealed

So, off with blind-fold, on with the lights
What I beheld- an embarrassing sight
For there all around stood family and friends:

“SURPRISE” and I WAS!

No more birthdays since then
