Forget-Me-Not

Never forget, they say
Staring out across the poppies
In the innocence of day
Pure, untouched. Peace.
Never forget the things you have done
The lives you have saved and taken
The wars you have won
To come home to us. Peace.
Never forget the devils and fear
They spun stories of terror
Bringing children to tears
But promised. Peace.
Never forget, what do they know?
They weren’t there while the guns blazed
Never felt such a low.
And still they preach. Peace.
Never forget, never ever forget
We all forgot
To forget brings regret
But to remember is death. Not peace. Never peace.
Never forget, never forget to forget
Because if you lived through the war
Felt blood gushing, wet
To remember is to forget
Who you are. So never forget.
Never ever forget.
