Pain

how long can I hold on?
I'm so used
to the sight of you
peacefully sleeping,
hearing the mellow
sound of your breathing
the soft touch of your skin
still lingers
cigarrete smoke in the air
reminds me of your presence

today, I must,
though I never wanted
to wake up
with a pain in my chest
I'm used to making
two cups of coffee
each morning
one sweet, the other
less sugar and cream
how long can I bear the truth
that you are gone
and I'm left alone?
