The Ballad of Will Hownslow

verse 1

Will Hownslow was an outlaw
Who roamed the old southwest
At twenty one he drew his gun
Much faster than the rest

verse 2

A-killin’ and a-robbin’
Was what he did the best
A stolen watch, a fifth of scotch
Were hidden in his vest

Will Hownslow’s sole religion
Was whiskey and a Colt
He never heard the preacher’s words..
Your soul is in revolt!

Well judge Nathaniel Percy
Said.. May the Lord have mercy
on your soul!
Your neck we’ll be a-stringin’,
and soon you’ll be a-swingin’
from a pole!

He went down to El Paso
To rob the morning stage
Although he fought, he still got caught
And thrown into a cage

Poor Willie’s life was over
Despite his tender age
His trial went, and he was sent
To get a sinner’s wage

Were bullets and a horse
He didn’t heed his momma’s pleading..
