Poems - The 495 Beltway

The 495 Beltway

A stretch of highway that is plainly round
For all traffic that is Maryland, Virginia and DC bound
The cars, trucks and buses line up alike
While hoping their rpms will get a spike
It never happens that way around five
When bumper to bumper is all the way live

Attitudes and tempers begin to flare
Road rage begins, with an obtuse stare
A broken down car in the emergency lane
It’s 94 degrees, horn-tooting is in vain
Here comes a firetruck and the police
Rubbernecking it’s called for all to see
An accident isn’t too far away
Under a bridge where children play

The exhaust is now so profuse
Trying to pass is of no use
Sitting in traffic is the norm
Going state to state so don’t be alarmed
Don’t be in a hurry or in dismay
Traffic is like this everyday

Forget the cell phone, for you won’t connect
An incoming call you definitely won’t get
You have no signal, where is the tower
Your battery is low and you’re almost out of power
You must leave early as if to catch the worm
If being on time is what you yearn

Red cars, white trucks, or blue
You shouldn’t drive the beltway if you have no clue
No clue of where you’re going or how long you’ll be
Driving the beltway between 3 and 5 is not the time to sightsee
Congestion and frustration both says it all
You drive the beltway and you make the call

Carmen!, A tough write for a rough drive... Hope the ac doesn't act up!!! I am happy to catch you here and touch your work again... All the best to you and all of your relations... Michael. I was there, Rockville, Maryland... back in 92'... made it to the 'Double Duce' on one of my drives...
