Poems - a good woman

a good woman

There's something sexual about a
girl with a guitar-
those folksy feminine singer/songwriter types,
resting wooden hips against their own...

straight men love them a good lesbian fantasy.

... and those croons and hums like the orgasms he
could never quite get close to-
not for lack of trying
but a small guitar like that needs
a woman's touch.

And yeah, I'm looking for a good woman
behind my eyes
under my covers
in between the lines

someone who giggles at sex jokes
but can be serious about love...
can even look you in the eye when
she holds the word between careful lips.

a girl who could fall asleep on your shoulder
without keeping one mind open
to the rise and fall of your chest-
secure enough in that reality to let
you see her dream.

who can be happy supportive girlfriend
in the audience
and finds your eyes in the crowd
from the stage.

who can drink you under the table
but does't need a shot to tell you
that you are unseasonably warm in January
and without that heat she'd have frozen
by New Years.

who's awkward in high heels
and sexy in converse kicks
who goes to lunch by herself
on visible outdoor patios
sits at a table meant for two and
doesn't apologize for taking up more
room than she should-
because she knows she's earned every inch.
orders her coffee with sugar and cream
and doesn't worry that it will
make her fat.

and I'm looking for a good man
to make me want to look a little
harder in me
for a good woman like that.
