Ovations

by fogglethorpe

Dance, ballerina, the stage has been set for you;
take it without inhibitions, and dance.
Many will marvel at fine pirouettes from you;
come, little coryphée, seize your big chance.
Don’t let the cramps and the butterflies steal from you;
knead one away, send the other to flight.
Step from behind the red curtain concealing you-
dance, ballerina, for all of the night.

Sing, little diva, the silence is there for you;
break it with silvery ballads, and sing.
Many will weep at the notes in the air from you;
go, little minstrel, and set them to wing.
Don’t let the coughing and creaking put fear in you;
sip from the fountain to keep them at bay.
Pick up your mic and don’t keep them from hearing you-
sing, little diva, for all of the day.

Shine, little starlet, for that’s what you ought to do;
light up the set with your fervor, and shine.
Many with laughter and tears will be lauding you;
grow, little ingénue, this is your time.
Don’t let the picks and the pans take a toll on you;
cut up the script with a scissors and knife.
Let the pure promise envelop the whole of you-
shine, little starlet, for all of your life.
