A tale of a Spider - and her Octagon of Death

by nightspirit

This is my introduction to my spider tale - ok do you ever really look at a spider ? - I mean really get down and watch one - when there is nothing to do - and I don't mean watching a documentary on television - I mean sitting there watching it work - from start to finish - beginning to end - and wonder - what is she thinking as she goes about her day - humm - as ugly as they are - those hideous real life vampires we run from if they are in our home - get our biggest bottle of bug terminator - and release the whole can upon it - just to make sure its dead and done - yeah - with a sigh of relief we are the fighter pilot that just saved the world - at least in our home anyway's - he he - well one day I watched a spider - and came up with this poem - as if she could speak - just for a moment - as she spun her web of death ...... here goes -

A Tale of a Spider -
and her Octagon of Death

Building my perfect home
between two trees
more skillful then an acrobat
with no need for trapeze.
Spindling, weaving, crafting
every threads in place
as I need no fancy plans
for my living space.

For I am the living predator
as I patiently await
awaiting for my prisoner
for my web to take.
I need no nails or hammers
as my home is a net
ask any flying insect
and I am sure he'll regret -
For if he comes through
he had better think twice
or he'll soon become
my living sacrifice.

Yes I am born toxic
and my venom is lethal
as my trap has just caught me
a big juicy beetle.
Methodically , mathematically
I will stroll to him
and inject the poison
that will do him in.
And as he lay paralyzed
and none the wiser
he has met the death
of the black widow spider !

So delicious, so nutritious
such a succulent delight
I'll hang him up and string him there
for later on this night.
My cunningness - my willingness
extravagance and bite
it's amazing how my enemies
put up not much a fight.
yes forever the arachnid
nature's terrorist
as I climb back up to sleep at home
and blow a goodnight kiss !

Wooo-wee, I quite enjoyed every bit of this! Up close and personal with an industrious black widow spider, how brave an observer you are. Your poem has such a nice rhythm and flow to it and your set-up piece set the stage for us readers so well. I sure wouldn't want to walk unexpectedly into her well crafted web, oh No! Cheers, my friend - Mary Ann

Had a black widow in the corner of the basement. I caught cockroaches and fed it every day. It grew bigger and bigger. I don't think they are supposed to eat every day. I became huge and bloated. And then exploded.

gentle - oh my - your perception on them is quite different then mine - I find them fascinating - intriguing - and creepy - and if one ventures into my home - ha ha - considering they are about as close to a real vampire as I will ever be - I kill them before they sneak up on me - thanks for stopping in and reading my twisted take on the spider - ^v^
