Poems - A Forest Fairy Tale
| | A Forest Fairy Taleby maryanns
A restless spirit scampers here, among the streams of fallen leaves
that whisper past a lonely path, her voice I hear keeps calling me
pick up the pace, you’re losing faith in all your scarce abilities.
Oh no I’m not, I whisper back! I skip and prance, I run and dance
amid the patient willow trees who wait and watch. I may get lost
and pay the cost of listening too much to whispered thoughts.
But I don’t care, her voice is fair; I’ll never fear her presence here
among the fragrant forest scent of hemlock, spruce and silver fir
where holly berries bow and wave hooray to me! I follow her.
I skip across a cheerful brook and laughter drowns her out, I think
but no, her whisper’s quickly back beneath a copse of alder trees
and there I found her sparkling gown spread out in front of me!

Maryann... I have had a hard time reading poetry lately. I have come to your page many times over the last few days. This morning caught my mind clear. It seems that I have been trying to read poetry to fast, the words were blinding me and I needed to slow down.
This poem reminds me of my yellow tom making me follow him with his calls I want you to bring me in but just not now. Why do cats like to stop short of where one is standing and not come to you or run away? When Johnny is hungry this does not happen and that seems to be all day long.
There is a question I would like to ask about the use of the word And in the last stanza. I try not to over use the word And not saying you overused it here. I only have a fifty grade education, but remember being told the word is to be used once in a sentence and yet this is a stanza in poetry which is a work of art. I hope this comment is also. Do you think that the first use of the word And in the last stanza could have been another word? I fight the word And all the time.
These are two ways I would have written the first line of that last stanza leaving And out:
I skip across a cheerful brook where laughter drowns her out,
I skip across a cheerful brook as laughter drowns her out,
Mary I thank you for standing by me when I needed a friend with understanding...
BWP... I hope you enjoyed my heart felt comment. James... I hope you and yours have a wonderful 2012..........

Awww, hey there and and and (of course you're right, James, usually I try to, too!). Maybe laziness on my part, taking the easy way out to complete the rhythm right to the end. I quite enjoyed "being there" as I wrote and fussed over it; I was in such sheer enjoyment nothing could intrude. Wish it was possible to go there any time I want to...
Good to hear from you, my buddy my friend - and absolutely, Yes - I enjoyed your heartfelt comments and pertinent advice very, very much! So glad to hear your cheerful voice and see you writing poetry once again.
