Surfer

by Ozymandias

riding the eternal wave
towards the immeasurable shore
you don't look back
over your shoulder
to see the tsunami
and if you did
you would say to yourself -

just another swell
in the sine wave of the heartbeat
a throb of adrenaline
in the music of the spheres

and so the board points always
straight ahead:
but by now
the surfie girls have left the beach
and the bonfire
has burned down to black charcoal
littering the last stretch of sand

Every time I read one of your poems Oz erases a little more that traditonal hissy thing re: kiwis and aussies..You are a great ambassador especially for the Aussie male..and I don't agree that you're the weird one because you write poetry..your poems, like this one, are just brilliant...Smile-Phoebe

    Anyone who writes poetry had got to be at least a little weird, at least if the poetry is any good! I'm about to change my profile so as to use a quote from Bob Dylan: "If you call yourself a poet you get lumped in with some very strange people".

    Meanwhile, don't downplay your own high ability as a representative of Kiwi poetry!

This was a well crafted poetic Ozy.
I enjoyed the combination of
possible disaster and abject
nonchalance of the surfer.
