The Barn in Summer by Ian M. Emberson

The barn
contains its sorrow from the heat.
Outside
the blues, the greens, the pinks,
burn trumpets on the mind,
and the wings of swallows and hot dragon-flies
clash in a cacophony of kettledrums;
but within
there is a shimmering of muted strings,
sinking through shadows
amongst the valley-glades of wilting hay.

We have a barn on our property in Vermont. This perfectly describes it in summer. Beautiful work.
