Poems - Duality in a Single Heartbeat
| | Duality in a Single Heartbeatby maryanns
Patience once aligned herself with stars
positioned prone beneath the swirling mass
of fiery birth and death and nothing in between
the Earth and frozen footprints on the moon.
Step forth, she thought; dare open up her heart
and soul to all that greatly glitters there
in matter formed of duplicates before her birth
to watch a momentary pulse of light expand
across her watchful open mind at hand.
Intelligence, some say, once lit a flaming torch
explosive gasses followed forth in hot pursuit
while strange expansive time and space escaped
until millennia have passed without a pause
to take a momentary breath or once reflect upon
the sharp decline in galaxies that shine.
Beneath the majesty of stars once thrown afar
there lies one trace, blue molecule of truth
bathed in a universe of flux, life has traversed
far beyond the rings of Saturn on its course
of thirst for more than transitory life and death
as time expires she lays aside her telescope
dismissing duality in a single heartbeat.

Oh yes I can, hear your sigh through the medium of thought. Perhaps all that's presented here is just echoes and sighs... if so, your response feels warm and lovely and makes writing worthwhile. Thank you, my friend; so appreciated. Best wishes, Mary Ann

I love the metaphysical implications here..the objectivity of truth, the possible unreliability of perception. Wonderful meter too. This is both smart and elegant.

"Smart and elegant" - Foggy put it well. I notice with interest that the stanzas have 4, 5, 6 and 7 lines, wondering if that is some form that I have not heard of? But the main appeal of the poem is its depth and solemnity.

now look what you have gone and done, Say MaryAnns, if there is duality in a heartbeat, then a lubba-dubba- would be lub-dub, lub-dub, then it is two heartbeats, or again, two hearts beating as one, say are you flipping for someone? don't! waste of energy.

Ah, I so enjoyed reading your cool, in-depth analysis... I almost wish I could say there's a beating heart-throb going on in the background, but that would be rather duplicitous of me (hee-hee)! It is so much fun conversing with you - where 'ya been, Alana?? Many thank you's - Mary Ann

The fact that some properties can be explained best by wave theory and others by particle theory. Like the answer to the question is there a god? And the answer is but one heart beat away. Do we really we really want to go passed that heart beat for the answer or just not yet?
dismissing duality (theory) in a single heartbeat.
