Because I'm A Teenager

by self-express

i believe fully in sinning everyday
breaking hearts of strangers just for the rush of the danger
attached to unattached relationships
taking risk with misfits
riding in cars of boys with warrants attched to their names
ditching school to smoke weed, drink and party
at 8 in the morning
lie about "after school programs" to hang at local make-out spots
with different college guys
staying out way past curfew
getting arrested
not think about the sonsequences
say FUCK the government!
fail my freshman year because colleges don't look at it anyway
steal my dads car......wreck it
use my five-finger discount at the malls
flirt with mr. bodyguard
so my friends can sneak into the club
destroy my liver with shots of vodka and tequila
mix all the colorful pills
take everything they offer me
get addicted to something
max out my moms credit card with regrettable tattoos
that say: i won't regret
get pregnant
pay 400 dollars to get my wound scraped
catch a STD.......lie about it
pass it on
dress the part to erect mens hard on
show my rack to the guy next to me in traffic
RUN WILD!
go skinny-dipping
have sex with my same sex
ménages à trois up a three some
throw out my condoms to feel the real deal
pretend i'm FEARLESS!
did i already say smoke?
i don't think of my future remember.....

First,

I am quite older than you and my youngest is 17 herself. Anyway I wrote a piece similar to this about " the girl I am" and I found myself shaking me head as I read you poem. First because I remember when I was your age and wild as could be! Sound almost the same as you. I also compare the piece I just wrote about me at 47 and how obviously different it know is. You have raw talent here. I'd love to see you keep writing and develop it further.

You have taken me down memory lane. I have been a teenager for many decades now but I have curbed my behavior somewhat.

it's too bad and so sad that teens
feel they have to find the means
to show they are real people
like the bells in a church steeple
ring out with screams here I am
when life is really just a sham
the poem brings life to hurt and pain
of being young with nothing to gain
it cries out in every line and word
just wanted to let you know I heard.
