I guess you would not see pelicans in a desert! But I am just a few miles from the coast, and there are wetlands around also, and pelicans are common. I muse on their lives, and the difference from our own, from time to time.

An amazing bird Rory. Thousands of pelicans leave for Lake Eyre in the desolate outback when the lake fills to breed and it's heartbreaking to see hundreds of dead chicks dead and dying when the water becomes too salty and the food supply disappears. Ever since a pelican damaged my face in the barmah forest I keep my distance. Isn't it great to see these birds so close to the bustling city. Thanks Rory Lindsay
