Poems - Colorado Burning

Colorado Burning

The rockies are burning-
for sure these days.
Sitting a mile high,
where air is anorexic thin,
I see it raining down-
from an ashtray in the sky.
Settling down on everything
like graying dandruff.

The awful smell,
of forests, and memories,
dead in a puff of smoke.
It sickens me, because,
we’re to close to the sun.

I’m ready to die-
in her oven baked heat,
running faster than,
cremation ovens at Belsen.

I’ve reached purgatory-
Next exit. Hell.
So I sit. I wait.
For the men in yellow,
to tell me what to do,
With my life.

In some fashion or another-
I’m left waiting on,
another man to tell,
me what to do.
Why in this purgatory,
should it be
any different?
Silly me, I laugh as,
as I think of
what my husband
would say. It’s all
“Smoke and mirrors, baby.”
