Seasons of the heart

In the spring of my days
My heart gave birth
To a love deep and pure
Infantile and innocent

And all summer long
It cosseted its devotion
Refusing to believe
It could remain unrequited

But now in the early autumn of my life
I realise that summer’s folly and fables
Must die along with the leaves
As summer’s delusions relent

And when winter finds me
My heart will surely be
A frozen wasteland
In the harsh artic tundra

One thing I like about free verse like yours is that words flow like tears down your cheek. There's no danger of sounding mechanical. Very good poem.
