Poems - Oxygen

Oxygen

When I breathe out
there is a long, still pause
as if I were deciding
whether it is worth the breath
to go on.

At 5, the list I made at 8
is still mostly undone
and if I begin again tomorrow
then tomorrow night it will be
still undone.

Half-done and unattempted tasks
need closure: a strike through,
postponement, an eraser that
tears up curls of paper
attacking ink.

Between now and night
there is another list of things
to do, another page of
shoulds to eat at me
as I sleep.

There is no air.
My lips are closed.
My chest feels ready to burst
with emptiness, until I relent:
oxygen!

i really like your poem, i can feel the paper, ink ......... mostly the excellent placement of .... the breathing with the interaction of tasks ..... 'Oxygen' . induCe (just remembered to breathe in- niCe) .
