Bird Song

When did I ever sing a song with a melody
A chorus that could alight softly on the ear
A bird could float for hours, belting gayly
And be content, but we'd never hear

Wind might sweep away the sound,
but the heart is there
I've missed that heart so
help me to slip it back into place

Something has been misplaced
Somewhere there's been a mistake

I can shine my countertops endlessly
But the reflection inside will be no more distorted
nor will its sharply contrasting clearness
Be any consolation for the food that destroys my hard work

Lights often blare inside my brain
They'll blind me, but they might light the way
for someone else, lost?
I'll do my very best to show you the way

If I've ever sung you a chorus,
With notes that kissed your ears
Lips brushing with gentle love
(I've felt such a thing inside myself)
Then please I beg of you to respond

Sing to me your song and no amount of wind can ever carry it from me
