Poems - Designing Women

Designing Women

He likes them big -
comic-book balloon tits
straining the buttons
of his favorite shirt;
bare legs and tiny feet,
painted toes.
Barbie, he tells me,
would be perfect
with breast implants.

My mouth is neat,
so small and well-defined
that his thoughts about it
make him hard.
That's my fault, he says when he shows me
the Photo-Shopped picture -
my lips seamlessly smoothed
into place above Fanny Fantasy's
perfectly rounded chin.

His ideal woman
is a pixel pastiche;
his vision of romance
assembled from Inbox spam.
Now and then, his worlds
intersect and for a moment
he is drowning, suffocating
in a woman he has not designed

but it always passes when he starts to trim away
all the parts about her that don't fit.
