Praise

the God of sunrises and open roads
whispers in my ear all the prayers
I never had the courage to say out loud
makes the reality of being a woman
a blessing instead of a curse
grabs each grain of doubt
from the desert of my insecurities
and makes a spectacle
of how small and insignificant
they should be

the God of flavor and taunt
binds the corners of my mouth
to the headboard of my ears
ropes my stomach with boy scout knots
summons the powers that make rivers
rise and quicken through the deepest canyons

the God of rhythm and rhyme
uses the metronome in my chest
to keep time and pay homage to the omnipotent
has lips of talent and a tongue of envy
worships the juxtaposed
finds glory in the retelling

the God of precision and fantasy
is a selfless solution
for a broken world
a gilded framed abstract of awe and honesty
an image to cherish
an icon to praise

bev, I enjoyed this as a blessing for women. I think I could use a little more of stanza two in my life but I praise what God gave me. Beautiful piece.

Another Home Run, Beverly! So much undulating power in the verses; it begins so benignly then it seems to SLAM it's message home and release. The second stanza is dynamite all by itself! (though I like it all) Really outstanding! Thanks for writing. J

Actually, this is quite good! Abstract and lyrical, it tackles an underrepresented subject in today's world. Stanza two sparkles especially.
