Gavin
Two inch feet, snug and warm
dimpled pink rolls
dark black lashes—fringed heavily
over wide blue eyes.
Innocence sleeps in your small body;
you suckle your lips, resting contently.

I daydream of your future contently,
imagine your first word “mama” and feel warm.
How did such perfection come from my body?
How will I get rid of these fat rolls?
Will you have your father’s eyes?
These questions weigh on my mind, not heavily.

You, my child, I love heavily.
you, my child, I hold contently.
You, my child, have heavenly eyes.
You, my child, have made our home “warm.”
For you, my child, I put change in rolls.
You, my child, so small in body

evoke powerful emotions in everybody.
I watch, admiring as you walk, & gasp as you fall heavily.
Seeing your head crash towards the table, my stomach rolls.
You hush crying and sigh in my arms contently.
Your hands tug at my hair, your lips slobbery warm.
You are perfection exemplified, in my eyes.

Before my eyes, you will grow large in body and will love rock and roll.
I feel your warm breath, contently now, but heart heavy.
