Breeders of Hate

by psychobabble

Deck The Halls with boughs of holly
fa la la la la, la la la la
Tis the season to be jolly
fa la la la la. la la la la
Don we now our

"fine" apparel?

In the dictionary, the word "gay" is defined as
happy, keenly alive, exuberant
Yet, place it in a Christmas carol
it invokes fear deep enough
that some say enough is enough
erasing it as if it's not a word,
but an implication

I'm standing in the back of a church auditorium
listening to second graders "Deck The Halls"
I sing along word for word until…
the word “fine” is substituted in place of “gay”

As I look through the crowd
I see created in the image of God
Which should make God homophobic
Because that’s what they are teaching these children
I see breeders of homophobia
I see the future of hate

and I want to ask
Does the Bible actually say
Love one another….except gays?
Because if it’s not love then it’s hate
If children are taught that
Gay is synonymous with hate
Children grow up to hate
You can’t preach love and peace in the same breathe as condemnation

Next thing you know
Santa won’t shout “ho ho ho”
Because prostitution is a sin

He can’t use “hi hi hi”
Because drugs are impure
Yet Christians believe Santa is jolly

So they’ll replace it with “Ha Ha Ha”
And we can all have a laugh

So when they have themselves a Merry Little Christmas
They’ll make it fun or fabulous
But never gay
Because children must fear the word “gay”

The same fear that breeds subliminal hatred
Because they claim it’s God will

God hates homosexuals
They want to spread AIDS
They’re against family, monogamy
They eat feces drink urine and blood
Thier world is a deviant playground
Sodom and Gomarah for the 21st century

That’s what the bully pulpits will have you believing

Yet the irony is that while Christians
Raise their loudest hatred spewing voices
It’s the alleged hated who peacefully practice the teachings of Christ

So you can take your fine apparel
Your fabulous yuletide
Deck your halls and have your merry little Christmas
but the next time I hear someone utter “Faggot”
I’ll remember the hate taught alongside
Reading, writing and rithmetic
And as I wipe their little nose
I’ll smile and remind them
God loves you too

Not much I can add to this- other than that I support every word you say. I see the kids I work with and even my own get force fed the barbie doll/gi joe bullshit every day of their lives and the lessons of rivalry in prejudice lend much effort to social control and self-perpetuate within a divide and rule state. No one is born racist, sexist or homophobic, so conditioning is vital- however subtle. It's fairly easy to do so when people are so busy looking in the mirror they can't see what's going on around them!
I saw this on the slams and had to repeat my vote here too! Nice one- great work! spence

i agree with the point the writer is trying to make but not so sure if it solves the problem in a poetic form. maybe closer to an essay than a poem. the syntax is bit odd also in certain lines which also takes away from the message. also it gets a bit preachy with strays away again from poetry. less telling more showing is a good thing to remember
