One Out Of Two Won't Do

by Justinpdrew

I remember the moment where I stopped believing you.
I was sitting in my car with my feet on the dash.
I was waiting for you to finish up with
whatever the hell it is that takes so damn long and
I was waiting for your voice on the other end of the line.

Because your voice is a song that never gets played out and
in contrast the silence is pure empty sadness.
But I sit and wait for your words to come back to me.
I'm still waiting for them to come back to me. You said
that you were uncertain and unsure about the whens and ifs.
I knew right then and there that I wasn't a when. I'm an if.

There's a part of you that feels you owe him a debt, I know that.
I hear it in your voice when you discuss the quirks and the quarrels
and the hate and the love and the everything that he still is to you.
And he still has you. The realization hits me like a bad smell.

So I dropped my legs down and sat up, staring out into
the empty woods lit by the moon, tracing a heart in the fog
on my windshield. I slid my finger across, splitting
the heart in half. I'm like the lady in the Bible story,
I want all of you or not at all.

One out of two won't do.

I like this poem very much. Sometimes the truth hits you like a ton of bricks, eh?

Nice write. Yes, you could leave out a couple of lines, but besides that, I think it is a really great write, hits the spot you are trying to state exactly...Keep it up, justin...Later, G.
