Poems - My Bar

My Bar

I look around to see my peers,
And watch them down their favorite beers,
And wonder why I stopped my car,
At this old grubby stupid Bar.

Music loud and women few,
I come here and there's nothing new,
Joe is drunk and on the floor,
And Mike can't find the bathroom door.

Larry's head has hit the table,
Bill won't help him, he's not able,
Sue is trying to woo a stranger,
Smelling like a barnyard manger.

Why I'm here defies description,
Doc gave me this damn prescription,
He said to take this special drug,
To chase away the boredom bug.

I'm bored with job, I'm bored with wife,
I'm bored with kids, I'm bored with life,
I'm bored with church and all that's "true",
And chances are I'm bored with you.

But then I drink a few more beers,
And look again at all my peers,
They're not so bad, they're all I got,
They're really not that bad a lot.

We drink a few and laugh and tease,
And talk our trash with certain ease,
And soon the pain just runs away,
And won't come back again today.

I guess I know now why I'm here,
I guess my help is in this beer,
I guess I know that here I'm free,
To be someone that's not like me.
