Poems - In Search Of Genius
| | In Search Of Geniusby easyeverett
I wonder why
the vibrant nature
of earth, stars and sky
rarely interacts or shares
infinite wisdom possessed
to influence human spirits
gifted with grand capacities
who might gently interrupt
and then transform the sad realtities
of man's long and often tedious journey.
Nature's universal wisdom is manifest
in amber dawn's blanket of beauty.
Echoes of forest fauna in a Sycamore
wood or the magnificent, multicolored
wildflowers who sing a harmony chorus
of delight from a country rise.
The stirring intonation of a Bengal tiger's
murmured purrs from depths within the Saradan
delta; all these things mesmerize to inspiration
as they cleanse and unify the soul.
Yet...
no effort to claim and possess the keys
of tomorrow's kingdom to challenge and rise
above malignant mediocrities and damnable
hypocrocies of man in support of these rare
gifted spirits has consistently been done.
Not by -
the busy benefactors of truth.
Not by -
the very vital vessels of truth.
Not by -
the objectifiers of truth.
Not by -
the diviners of collective truth.
So why...
do we not celebrate
and consecrate the glory of grand capacity
as shepherds proudly consecrate
the splendour and perfection of their flock?
These extraordinary individuals of complex,
comprehensive intellect could potentially
fulfill the poets' metaphorical dream of
compassion found in One-ness through the
unified, codified spirit of man.
Magnificent minds
exist in the world
where all of us live;
the rich man and poor man,
the pauper and prince,
the wise and the wicked,
the female and male,
the old and the young,
all part of the unexploited
mosiac genius of man.
It is paramount we ponder
the absence of these gifted
gems as brokers gather at the
power banquet table to represent
all mankind around the world.
The tentative timidity of gifted souls
to enter arenas
of socio-political commerce
could well be intrinsic
to the nature
of the gifts they possess.
The genius
has always been
needed to lead
and to heal,
with transcendent inspiration,
man's confused,
misused, perplexed
and often volatile nature
and offer epiphanies of insight
to enhance the human race as a whole.
We need the genius
of theology, philosophy,
poetry and painters,
pugilists and plumbers,
elementary teachers,
custodial staff,
street cleaners,
street-walkers,
the ragged wretched homeless,
the sailors, the soldiers,
the pasta pie makers,
hitchhiking hippies
and salt-water slackers,
mountaintop watchers
and Audubon lovers,
the night shift,
the day shift
and all shifts between,
for man's greatest chance
to make a contribution
toward universal
order and harmony that makes
in the words of Charles Baudelaire:
"the angels sing and the poets dance."
