DEAR GOD

by mercymercy

So tired of being tired
Is the mantra that pounds itself
Out
In my brain day in and
Day out
Dear God
Help me
I don’t know how much longer
I can bear this

The dwindling family around me
Leaves me aching and lonely
And I put on the magic face and
Pretend I am fine
And will always be
Fine

Dear God
Hear me
While my weary, old soul weeps
Help me learn to
Laugh again

Surely there is happiness
Out there
Somewhere
But
Maybe just not for me

So now my Soulmate
Has death’s shiny raven
Circling around him
For how long
We know not
But
I know it will end
Within a few months
Perhaps a year
And
He’ll probably not know my face
By then

Dear God
Please make sure he still knows my
Spirit
And holds it
Down deep someplace
When the black wings fly him away
Home
To you

Extremely sad, heartwrenching poem. If this is from real life, my sympathy, & may you find strength within to deal with this. Joan

Your words go to my heart... this is a very hard time, indeed, in my life. Thank God for this outlet here for my poetry and the support of my poetry companions, Some have become precious friends. It is also so meaningful to know someone would add one of my works for their favorites list. Thank you again.

Mercy...sometimes the mountains we climb can seem overwhelming, I know, I’ve climbed a few myself. It helps to know people are with you, and better still the hope that God hears and answers prayer. May it be so with you my friend.

A heart-rending poem, though beautifully written, is one I am sad to read. My heart and prayers go with you dear one.

Thank you for lifting me up in your thoughts and prayers, my dear Lionheart. Were it not for faith, I would not be able to bear this at all. And that doesn't mean the faith doesn't wane on occasion. It does. You know, someone told me Mother Teresa once was asked what shesay when she first met the Lord in Heaven. Her resopnse: "Lord, you've got some explaining to do." So if one of His most faithful servants would admit to such feelings, I keep that in mind during my own weak and questioning moments. Thank you again for your words and thoughts for me. Maybe my poems can reach someone who is also going through what is my pathway right now,

Regret that I missed this fine work earlier - you apply meter well so as to make the poem itself seem tired and old and, sort of, at the end of its tether. I do hope things go well for you. Keep on expressing yourself, I am sure it will help to some extent, my friend.

Karen - Thank you for your comments and prayers. It means very much to me and my family. I, too, love that particular song - I Can Only Imagine. It does provide such comfort. I am so sorry you had to go through this long goodbye, as so many call it, with your mother. My mother died 18 months ago and I still miss her so much. The only way to get through it is knowing what we know and what you said of her: "she went to be with the Lord." They don't have to imagine any more - they know the beauty and peace. Thanks be to God for His mercies!

I am sorry it has taken me so long to comment on this beautiful work of art. Though your poem speaks of a loved ones illness I would like to say that I understand this poem from a different level. It not only speaks of the illness of a loved one but it could also be spoken by the one with the illness

" I put on the magic face and
Pretend I am fine
And will always be
Fine

Dear God
Hear me
While my weary, old soul weeps
Help me learn to
Laugh again

Surely there is happiness
Out there
Somewhere
But
Maybe just not for me"

Is a beautiful expression for the way it feels to see your friends and family gathered around you telling you its all going to be okay when inside you are praying that God doesn't make them all become liars. This is truly brilliant

I read this a while back and didn't comment. I read this again today and am comforted by the fact that time heals and the Lord answers.

Times of anguish and desperation sometimes give us the words to express deep complex feelings, and the ability to weave the words into a cry that moves people and brings humans closer together. This poem prompts us, and shows us how to use compassion to sooth the pain of others.
