And God said,
Obatala, go down to Earth,
and create the people.
Fashion them out of river clay,
Each slighly different from the other.
Give them life, and human spirit.
Obatala went down to Earth
And began to fashion the people
made each one different,
and gave them life and spirit.
The third day he became bored,
went and drank some palm wine
and became very drunk.
and went on to fashion more people.
The next day, he awakened
And found all of his masterpieces of the night before
fashioned incorrectly.
Some had one arm.
Others had one leg.
Big head, one eye a hole
Incorrect speech, even two people
fused together.
Obatala swore an oath
That from that day on,
He would be protector
Of all the misshapen and weak of mind and body.
Note: Derived from an African Yoruba story., and also followed in parts of Cuba/Miami.

this is wonderful! but I do think you had a bit too much of that wine yourself before typing the first verse  ...giggle, giggle... slighly different - I think you dropped your tea. I mean T ;-D.

wow! i really liked this story- best of all obatala being the protector ....

Thanks BWP: You got it! This is a retelling of an Afircan story, put into my own words, basically. I do not take credit for the idea for this. I know many creatin stories by some Native American tribe had a story about a spiritual leader fashioning the original people out pf clay.. Take care, Gail
