The Graveyard of my Mind

by screamingslave

Every night I exit my life and enter the graveyard of my mind. Here, the only thing that is, is that which once was but never will be again. A serenity and sadness fills the air as I mourn. Tombstones for what I took for granted, mausoleums for what I miss most. Here is where all memories come to rest. Ever rearranging, this place looks different every time I visit. As you would expect, its quite difficult to find something you are looking for, you just simply come across what you can. Here I stand trembling, I've missed this memory far too long. I grab a shovel and dig until I hit coffin. I open it, and it hasn't aged a day since I last buried it. This pure moment of happiness and reflection is suddenly disrupted by screeches. In my haste of digging up the past I forgot about the skeletons in my closet. The ghouls bash on their coffins, and it just takes a moment of distraction for them to break loose. I get grabbed by one, and it won't stop til it his dragged me into a grave with it. I loosen its grip and I run. I've escaped from it, but I hear it howling and I know it will persist. I continue wandering, searching through my memories. I see newly dug graves and I see some that have been left untouched since burial. Some cannot simply be dug up. Layers of steel and concrete in the way, is it protecting me from something? Is it protecting something from me? Is there something inside of extraordinary value? Until I find something to crack them open they will remain a mystery. Fatigue bearing down on me, I feel it is time to leave. A night of digging up memories, to be buried again come daylight.
