The Hunter Waits

by Gil

The smell of this dark room
I have hidden here for three days now
with a sense of impending doom
my rifle has its own life somehow

The rifle leaned against the wall
Hunting, I watch and wait
from the darkness a movement I saw
this enemy I truly hate

From the distance I watch them get ready
a mortar tube they begin to emplace
The adrenaline begins as I wait steady
as the rifle on my rest I embrace

From a three story hide I lay my eye upon the glass
my finger edges forward and knows its place
My crosshairs find their mark alas
and zero in on the first ones face

I let the hairs drop as I release my breath
a mark on his chest is where my bullet will be
From 600 yards away I will deliver death
their killer they shall never see

The rifle makes me master of my surrounding domain
as I smirk at their impending doom
The rifle barks and I let him feel the hot burning pain
the bullet impacts before they hear the boom

The first one falls with a bullet through the heart
as I cycle the bolt to load another round
The second one realizing death is waiting for its start
as he hears the first booming sound

My scope finds him fast and my finger lets another loose
my bullet high slams into his face
His neck and jaw explode while he is caught in deaths noose
blood, brain and bone scattered around his resting place

In five seconds two men lay dead
I move back into the shadows to wait
Blood everywhere paints the ground red
two of my enemy have met their fate

An awful smile I let show
as I grab the pack and rifle to slip away
It is time and I must go
to hunt and kill another day

From the back we move off for the reeds
along the river to hunt elsewhere
Two men lay dead and saitisfy my needs
to hunt men without a care

This is my world here without a doubt
I the hunter who stalks men as my quarry
Each one a game as I take them out
each one a pawn in a terrible story

This day I will hunt no more
I need sleep and a meal in a safe place
A word with God to forget this gore
I the hunter who wears death`s face

In a silent moment I ask him to forgive
that I do this to save many lives
That my brethern might live
to see their mothers, children and wives

Two have died that would have killed
my friends and brothers with their chance
God it is their time as you so willed
I the hunter in tune with this deadly dance.....
