Poems - White Poppy

White Poppy

How can something so beautiful,
So precious, so pure,
Bring about addiction
For the fool to endure?
He sinks the needle in his arm,
Instantly acting maladroit.
In Afghanistan lush white meadows
Are waiting to exploit.
The average man, can turn to it,
In his times of desperation.
Just to feel the temporary thrill
Of that moment of elation.
Then he needs it like he needs air,
How he gets it he doesn’t care.
As long as I doesn’t have to cluck,
I really couldn’t give a fuck.
The greedy monster purrs in his belly,
Wrapping him up in a blanket of warmth.
A false sense of security.

The white poppy isn't only beautiful,
It's deadly and alluring.
In an ugly form of dirty drown
Only death it is ensuring.

A lesson of a poem for sure, poppies may be beautiful but their effect is deadly. Not sure what the answer is, banning substances apparently doesn't work, eh? People go to such lengths to obtain them. Good subject to bring up, I hope many readers pay attention to your poem, Craig. Best Wishes, Mary Ann
