Adam's First Wife: LILITH

by easyeverett

I

The days of blood and rain won't pass
As it was written - it shall be.
The old ones hold a blackened mass;
Laburnum, pot-ash, pine and ghee
Is wed with virgin blood that flows
Until the crimson thickens black
And dries outside as North wind blows
To cure upon the sacred rack.

Now Lilith roams the nether plains
In cold despair and agony.
Her time of banishment now wanes;
This Hallowed eve finds liberty
For Adam's true eternal mate
Whom God cast out of Paradise
(And locked forever Eden's gate)
To wallow with the worms and lice.

All torments told, those early days,
Shall be fulfilled without restraints.
No souls to save as Satan prays
For His dear fallen angel saints.
A dark communion made of blood
Which gushed from Lilith's barren womb
And soaked the earth till earth was mud,
To form hard clay to shape man's tomb.

II

And suddenly, the rumbled gathering
Of minions rising up to greet the wind;
Perdition weeps with pride the quickening
As joyous souls escape though they have sinned.
Within the swirl of clouds a demon screams
To clear the way for blood-lust ecstasy;
As Lilith like chimera from her dreams
Becomes as one with all reality.

Still filled with apprehension demons wait
As sentries guard the sacred altar stone;
For kindred are they to the spectral wraith
Who hunts for Satan's needs and bleeds alone.
So rapidly the Hallowed eve draws nigh
The bitterness of Lilith fills the air -
This dark and ancient order cannot die:
These devils versified by Baudelaire.

And as the beauty of the night arrives
Disturbing is the deadly silence heard!
A silence where the demon always thrives -
In darkness waiting for his master's word.
Yet though no clouds appear in God's vast sky
The silver-blue of stars cannot be seen
Through stillness far too ominous to lie;
The atmosphere pervasive and obscene.

III

An echo from the hill
A chorus of free will
A time tonight to smite
The right - a time tonight
To shine a light so bright

A time to take for Satan's sake
A time to help our master make

a place where man is made to face
that soon the world will have no stake
to save mankind from his disgrace
as all the fires rise from the lake
mankind in chaos cannot brace
for man alone will God forsake
as Satan guides the human race

IV

As putrid vapors leak from hell's foul stink of rotted death
Dark huddled angels sing hosannas to the rising cries.
Cyclonic winds begin in hell from Satan's own sweet breath
And bursting forth this Hallowed night great shadows start to rise.

this is incredibly worded and appealing to the sense. the story of Lilith is a fascinating one, too bad its oft ignored and cast aside in favor of Eve (i devoted an entire month of research to Lilith for an anthropology class once). very well done, an excellent write!!
