a yellow dress

a yellow dress

is how you snuck your way
closer, knowing daffodils and lemon scones
were the only hopes you had of
shifting my belief from endless gray, to include, perhaps, hope
after accepting the permanence
of my heart’s brokenness

I’m so sorry you cut yourself open
on the pieces still spilled
on the kitchen floor where I found my husband, age 31

him choosing meth and death
over me
is still simply too much
to move on from

I really loved this poem! I thought the way it reveiled itself was just very intelligent. Imagery, story, emotion, sad and powerful. I appreciate this poem.

I want to be able to give something like a 7.5 or .6 on this...I like the small details of the opening, the imagery of the yellow agaisnt the gray...I just end wanting more; that ending, as poignant as it is, seems to be unconnected to the beginning in some critical way. Closure, that awful word, is missing for me, at least in the poetic sense...but I want to know more, and that's important. Nice job.
