There

She picks her time, sneaks up and knocks me down,
laughs at my efforts to get up on icy,
then runs away again. I’m cold and slow, so I see
there is no way to brace, to time the sound

of her approaching steps.
Anticipation lingers on bloody lips
and trembling, useless fingers
fold slowly one by cracking one, except

the middle ones – I won’t pretend she’s real,
but I will surely show her how I feel.
