Poem in my Poke

Five adult or mature juveniles and at least three baby owls
The parents make a ruckus and the rest are back in the hole for now
But first they perch and holler in awe
I must be the biggest threat they ever saw

Calm down little crybabies
Stop your hooting
I’m not a predator
I’m just looking

It was clear to see
They were his family
Because the biggest stayed near bye
Holding a gaze
From a windy limb
And making an awful cry

His meter and his tone were vulgar of course
He reckoned himself to be a formidable force
With his cute little fuzzy feathers
Shaking but trying to keep himself together

It was enough to frighten me off
I resumed my search
I was afraid he’d have a heart attack
And fall off his little perch

That walk…I didn’t want to take
Turned out to be two miles
I got some rocks, a poem, some squaw tea,
And a whole lot of smiles
