I'm with Misty here. I like this write a lot. I love the repetition of across the atmosphere. Makes it very eloquent.

i love your repeating lines "i always used to wonder," and "across the atmosphere," but i also love the line "where has all the _____ gone," and then _______ overcame my joy," "of living life as _____ went out." this is such a creative poem and i really want to try my hand at writing one of similar stature...if that is ok with you...of course, i will not be using the same lines or theme...but let me know if that is ok with you. love this poem!

MaryAnn, I love this, love it. One question:

with promise and a song
then sadness overcame my joy

For some reason this word 'tjen' gives me pause. Is it the right word? Do you mean 'when' or 'and'? 'Then' says that there is a 'reversal' of some kind coming in the next words. I don't see it like that - I see it as a continuation of the same thought, in which case 'and' or 'when' would be better. I would be interested in what you think.

This is a wonderful poem, Mary Ann. In particular, stanza three bristles with a haunting, lyrical energy.

stanza 1 2 and 4 were my favourite stanza. a very soft melody came through with the repetition of certain lines, "across the atmosphere' really gave me a sense of airy drift through space, the poem had a sadness to it aswell. much enjoyed la maestra!

excellent mary ann. hope springs eternal...even when we have given up on it, to live in limbo. love still taps us on the shoulder, and says " hey you, remember me? " - holes in the atmosphere can be fixed - paul.

Wow - you have sure lifted up my spirits ... Since I've been on the move this summer I've missed a lot of fantastic poetry on gp and mostly I haven't even the time to share hardly any of my experiences.

Yesterday Lew and I got lost in the piney woods near Lake Oswego (New Hersey) - on a paved road that turned into a gravel road that turned into a sandy track that looked like we'd have to turn around and go back the way we came.... Hee-hee, it was almost like the "Friday the Thirteenth" blog story I posted the other day - except we didn't get chased by the devil and we finally made it out the other side.

Thank you once again, James. I'm feeling wonderful this morning as I sit here sipping my coffee scratching mosquito bites... hee-hee.
