Wolf

Wolf


The cold, piercing gaze
Of the wolf looks right at me
I stand motionless

The cold winter sun
Shines a dull light on the snow
Breath’s vapor glistens

Shivers down my back
From cold or, perhaps, from fear
My heartbeat quickens

The wolf looks at me
It opens its mouth and yawns
Then it turns away

    Thank you! Interestingly, I wasn't thinking about colors when I was writing this, but that's the great thing about poetry - everyone interprets a poem in his own personal way.

Sharing a moment with a wild animal can be very awe-inspiring.

    Thank you very much! To be honest, I'd prefer to never have such a face-to-face encounter with a wolf or any other wild animal, but... I enjoyed pretending, imagining and "feeling" the surroundings, the feeling of adrenaline as I encounter the wolf, the uncertainty... Smile

    I guess you can tell I've read a lot of Jack London. I read several of his books straight through when I visited Helsinki a couple of years ago.
