Gideon's Bible

by cactusdapoet

Before there can be forgiveness,
There must be a confession.
Before there was light,
There was only darkness.
Before there's a tomorrow,
I must get through today.

Today...

Today, there's a bottle
of Sweet Sour Mash,
melted down ice
in a dirty rocks glass.
There's a faded picture of you
lost in the alcoholic fog
that's called my memory.
I can barely recall your name.
I can only feel the pain.
Hands gentle tremble with a violent shake.

The skid row motel clock
blinks it's three am.

Yeah, this is all I am.

Black and white moive
with the sound turned down low.
"Play it again, Sam" and the moive ends.
The National anthem and I'm
alone again.

Waiting on the sunrise
with a stiff drink in my hand.

Before the can be forgiveness,
There must be a confession.
Before there was light,
there was only darkness.
Before there can be a tomorrow,
I must survive today.

The clock blinks it's five am.
I open a drawer in search of a pen,
to write the note that will
acompany my suicide,
only to find a bible.

I set down my drink.

Leave my gun unloaded.

make it through Luke
by check out time.
Lay the bible back in the drawer,
for the next in line.

Grab my shit,
leaving a half finished bottle behind.

and I,

step out into the light.

Before there's a tomorrow,
I must get through today. the begining is to cliche, and the end is is weak too, this demerit some stanzas that are alright
